TRIMMING(REFINING FORMS) WORKSHOP
Date and time: Sunday, July 20th, 10:30-12:30
Group size: 4-5 participants
Instructors: CansinSuitable for beginner throwers and those who have experience in trimming but who still struggle with basics such as centering quickly on the wheel, refining walls, foot-rings and rims evenly and smoothly without using clay to attach pieces to the wheel.
This is an excellent workshop for those who want to learn how to trim their work efficiently or those who want to improve their technique using professional grade tools.
If you have objects from a wheel-throwing session you may use them in this workshop. Otherwise you’ll be given a small bowl, plate and cup to trim so you have experience in trimming objects with different shapes and centers of gravity.
This workshop focuses on the fundamentals of trimming such as how to:
- Center pieces quickly on the wheel
- Trim without needing to attach pieces to the wheel with clay
- Decide which tool to use for which task and effect
- How to create flawless and smooth exteriors or keep texture while trimming
- Sign your objects by carvingIf you don’t have a glazing workshop booked after this lesson, your piece will be glazed with clear glossy or matte glaze so when you come to pick up your objects, they will already be ready to use, water-tight and dishwasher-safe and food-safe.
Your objects will be ready to be picked up from the studio within a few weeks. You may come to pick up your pieces by appointment. Most weeks there are a couple time slots you can choose from.
Please note this workshop does not include color glazing. If you would like to glaze your pieces, you may sign up for a glazing workshop.
Price of workshop includes:
- A ready-to-trim bowl, cup and plate (if you don’t have your own thrown pieces)
- Bisque firing of your trimmed objects
- Glazing and glaze firing of your objects
- Silk paper for wrapping your objects
- 10% discount code to use at Keramikos for in-shop or online purchases€125 per person

TWO-DAY INTENSIVE WORKSHOP
PORCELAIN THROWING TECHNIQUE BOOTCAMP
CYLINDERS, CUPS, VASES, BOTTLES
Date and time: Tuesday, July 1st, 9.00-17.00 + practice session on Wednesday, July 2nd, either between 10.15 and 14.00 or between 18.15 and 22.00.
Group size: 3-4 participants
Instructor: Ipek
This is an intensive 2-day workshop for those who already know how to throw cups or bowls with at least 500 grams of porcelain.
We will deep dive into professional level technique so that centering, coning, opening up and pulling up become second nature to you so you can go through these steps quickly and use your time efficiently in the studio.
This workshop will give you the skills so you can make more pieces when you come to open studios and don’t struggle with the basic steps anymore.
Think of this as the pottery version of Karate Kit, wax on and wax off… :)We will focus on hand positions, pressure and speed rather than creating perfect pieces.
After doing all the exercises and finishing 7,5 kg of clay in one day, you will visibly see the results and even more importantly, you will feel the ease and confidence with which you will be able to work on the wheel.
No more struggling with the basics of throwing, no more spending 5 minutes to center your clay or not knowing how to prevent problems such as uneven wall thickness or rims. You will be working with 500 grams of porcelain clay and will be encouraged to use up to 10 kg of porcelain throughout the workshop.
You will cut at least a few of the pieces you make on Friday to see the cross section of your pieces and will be able to keep 10 pieces you make in the 2 days of the workshop.
Price includes:
Access to 10 kg of soft porcelain clay
Bisque firing of up to 10 objects of 500 grams each
Lunch on Friday
Coffee, tea, water
What is not included in the price:
Prepaid parking tickets
Extra porcelain clay€325 per person
