Ceramic workshops

Ipek’s workshops last 3 hours and are suitable for all levels. She teaches her students at the level they’re at and in any given workshop there are usually participants of different levels although for the most part her students are complete beginners.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or you’ve been throwing since years, you will leave even your first workshop with her having learned new skills and/or improved your existing ones.

Most of her first time students make between 3-5 porcelain pieces in their first workshop, even if they don’t identify as being particularly artistic in nature or have never touched clay before.

Ipek is a very technical and patient teacher who loves talking about and demonstrating again and again good technique in order for her students to build an exceptionally solid foundation they can continue to build upon with practice.

Those who are/become interested in wheel-throwing seriously tend to move on to open studios after 2-3 workshops with her so they can continue learning from her and access her studio for practice more frequently.

It is not uncommon for Ipek’s students to get to her level aesthetically in as short a time as within 6-12 months of starting to learn from her.

Getting to her level size-wise however takes more time as Ipek can throw pots using up to 40 kg of porcelain. :)

This being said, Ipek is very generous with her skills and wants her students to get to her level technique-wise as quickly as possible.

This means her workshops are quite intensive and full of valuable information, tips and tricks she developed over 17+ years and exercises that push her students to become better potters.

She has heard numerous times from her students who came to her with some throwing experience that they’ve learned more in a single workshop with her than they did in a 10-session course somewhere else.

Her workshops have 4-6 participants depending on the type of workshop, in order to ensure everyone gets plenty of individual attention and coaching from her and is able to reach their goals with ease.

On average, Ipek teaches wheel-throwing and glazing (ceramic painting) once a month; and hand-building and trimming workshops a few times a year.

Workshops may be purchased one at a time or a package of workshops may be purchased to book multiple spots in the same workshop or to be used by the same person over a year.

For example, two friends may book a 4-workshop package for themselves and book 2 spots in a wheel-throwing and 2 spots in a glazing workshop together.

Alternatively, someone may want to book 4 spots in a wheel-throwing workshop for themselves and 3 of their friends. As long as there is one payment for the package, the booking may be for multiple people.

If you’re an experienced potter who’s looking for technical advise, a private lesson may be more suitable for you. In this case, email Ipek and request a video call or an in-person meeting to discuss your goals and she can help you further come up with a plan for private lessons. She usually has a couple hours a month for private lessons.
